Politics
Some of the most obvious convictions are reflected in politics. For example, if you’re a strong conservative and you meet someone with more liberal politics views you may be in for some very heated conversations. If you’re stance is pro-life and theirs is pro-choice, you better be ready for some conversations around that topic. Someone’s personal political views are very close and dear to them. Most people quickly defend and protect their political views. If you choose to enter into a dating relationship with someone on the opposite side of the political fence, you both need to maintain respect for one another.

Religion
Religion is another personal area of someone’s convictions. This goes without saying. There are people every day that marry from various religions but typically they’re not deeply devout to the religions. If you or your partner are deeply religious people, you may want to discuss this with them to get their perspective and feel out how this area is going to work or not work in your dating relationship. Although it can be done, it is more difficult to blend your lives together if you are deeply convicted in separate religions. One of you will eventually influence the other.

Person Conviction
Person conviction is any convictions outside of politics and religion. For example, some people think it’s evil to anything in your home that is not natural and in support of the Earth while other could care less and don’t’ care about toxic chemicals or traditional shampoos. People have strong convictions over the foods they eat, how they spend their time and money. These issues need to be explored in any dating relationship as they are places of possible contention down the road. Money is one of the largest personal convictions that cause issues in dating relationships. If you’re a spender and your partner is a saver, there could be struggle between the way you choose to spend and/or save your money.

Having an open mind when you discuss these issues with the person you’re in dating relationship with is essential. You don’t ever want to come across as attacking or criticizing the other person. You don’t have to agree with every point of view of the other person; you just need to respect them. By exploring all areas of a person’s convictions can save you from many quarrels and points of contention.
